April Challenge
The Most Amazing, World-Famous, Absolutely Fascinating Performance Known As The Class Reenaction
Maybe last time, noone cared about your stories. They listened to boring warrior tales instead of appreciating the art of the challenge... clearly, it's time to raise the stakes.
Seven stories are not enough? Fine, let's make it ten! Also make them a bit tougher, and add time limits! If that doesn't impress them... well, we'll just try again next year!
Challenge Requirements
- You may use a ROM patched with the "Alternative Main Character" romhack1
- Take no more than three (meaning two additional) characters into the cave
- Complete as many goals as possible2 from the following list within 99 minutes:
- On floor 1-10, equip any rapier, whip, or musical instrument3
- On floor 11-20, run away from all, but at least one, Red Core encounter4
- On floor 21-31, get into a Blue Mimic encounter
- On floor 32-40, kill an Asashin using instant death effects5 that killed a character6 using Terminal Blow
- On floor 41-50, surprise-attack7 and kill a Ninja in the same battle
- On floor 51-60, listen to a Seirein's song8, then kill the Seirein that sang it in the same battle
- On floor 61-70, kill any three types of enemies from the following list: Salamander, Warm Eye, Gold Gorem, White Dragon, and Leech9
- On floor 71-80, open at least one chest on every floor that doesn't contain a potion10
- On floor 81-90, kill one type of metallic dragon that no other participant ends up killing11 without using instant death effects5
- On floor 91-99, use Providence in under 71 minutes of total run time12
- using the romhack is optional; if you choose to use it, you can obtain the romhack from the rompatcher that's linked in the Material section below
- placement in this challenge is determined by the amount of completed goals, using run time only as a tiebreaker; the run ends when reaching floor 99 without Providence in the inventory, when Providence is being used, when the run time reaches 99 minutes, or when all characters are dead (which does not invalidate the run); you must include an accurate tracker in the submission video, or a list of completed goals with your submission
- any item with "rapier" in the name counts as a rapier; any item with "whip" in the name counts as a whip; SuhrCustom11 and Figgoru count as musical instruments
- to complete this goal, input the escape command in every Red Core encounter, and actually escape at least one battle with at least one Red Core still remaining; if instead all Red Cores run away before you get a chance to escape, that doesn't invalidate the goal, but also doesn't satisfy its condition; you do not have to encounter every Red Core you see, just run away from all encounters you get into
- instant death effects are effects that kill a player, character, or capsule without displaying a damage number
- capsules do not count as characters
- to surprise-attack means to get the "Got in first!" message at the start of the battle
- Do-Re-Mi, Tra-La-La, Doop-Do-Wah, and Da-dadah count as songs; Voice Training does not
- you have to kill three different enemies once for this goal, not three of the same enemy
- you have to actually open a chest on every floor, which means getting a floor without any chests will invalidate this goal; any item with "potion" in the name counts as a potion
- types of metallic dragons are Copper Dragon, Silver Dragon, and Gold Dragon; only the best submission of a participant is relevant for determining the types of dragons killed, and the point may be removed or added after your run gets verified because of that
- the timing is when Providence is used from the item menu, just like the timing for speedrun attempts
Material
You can use the following tracker to make it easier for you/your viewers to follow what's going on, as well as for me to check your runs.
You can obtain the romhack from the Lufia II ROM Patcher. To get the correct file, simply upload a Lufia 2 US ROM and check the "Alternatve Main Character" checkbox, followed by your character selection (Common Fixes will be applied whether you leave them checked or not; don't check anything in addition other than visual patches optionally).
You're welcome to use any of the following graphics in your challenge streams or recordings.
